FAQs Patent Questions

Question:Are published patents the only content of the Electronic Official Gazette - Patents?

Answer:
No. The eOG:P contains a section called Patent and Trademark Office Notices.

Question:May I write to the USPTO directly about my application after it is filed?

Answer:
The Office will answer an applicant’s inquiries as to the status of the application, and inform you whether your application has been rejected, allowed, or is awaiting action. However, if you have a patent attorney or agent of record in the application file the Office will not correspond with both you and the attorney/agent concerning the merits of your application.

Question:A Patent office sometimes requires a physical model for invention if necessary

Answer:
Models or exhibits are not required in most patent applications since the description of the invention in the specification and the drawings must be sufficiently full, clear, and complete and capable of being understood to disclose the invention without the aid of a model. A working model, or other physical exhibit, may be required by the Office if deemed necessary.
